How to Not Be Alarmed When Your Knees Start Cracking...

You’ve been running for years, managed to smooth through any minor injuries and find yourself still racing year after year. And then your knees start cracking and clicking. Concerning? We’d hope so.

After continued pressure the knee joints do wear down and when you add running to top it off, well, your risk for injury is greatly increased. This condition does have a name: a condition known as crepitus) and it can be controlled with stretches, attention to lingering pain and over the counter cures.

Symptoms* to watch out for:

  • Increase in Pain
  • Swelling or Tenderness
  • Buckling and Locking
  • Poor Range (or no range) of Motion
  • Cracking or Popping Sounds (esp. when squatting, bending or flexing joint)

Ways to help with pain and further injury:

  • Foam Roll Calf Muscles
  • Stretches that Target the Hip Flexor
  • Strengthen Knees
  • Gentle Yoga
  • Warming Up and Cooling Down

And as always, a balanced lifestyle and thoughtful training regime are key to preventing most minor injures.
